1. Winter Solstice — Night of the Veil
December 15
Theme: Endurance, Silence, Survival
Season: Deep Winter
- Longest night of the year.
- Fires are kept burning until dawn.
- Citizens leave lanterns in windows to “guide the lost.”
- In Nyvere, bells ring at midnight.
- In rural towns, people tell survival stories.
2. Spring Equinox — Bloomtide
March 15
Theme: Renewal, Forgiveness, Beginnings
Season: Early Spring
- Debts forgiven (symbolically, not legally).
- New apprentices announced.
- Trees planted in town squares.
- Arcane academies hold open demonstrations.
3. Summer Solstice — Highsun Ascendant
June 15
Theme: Strength, Honor, Triumph
Season: Midsummer
- Tournaments held in Tyr.
- Naval displays in Abyr.
- Public oaths renewed in Nyvere.
- Bonfires lit at dusk.
This is the most politically visible holiday.
4. Autumn Equinox — Harvest’s Vigil
September 15
Theme: Gratitude, Preparation, Balance
Season: Early Fall
- Communal feasts.
- Grain blessings.
- Night markets.
- Offerings to the gods for winter protection.
🌒 Three Minor Holidays
Smaller observances celebrated regionally or by certain groups.
1. Founding Day
January 6
Marks the recorded founding of Thein by the First Men.
- Parades in Nyvere.
- Speeches about unity.
- Military displays in Tyr.
- Students enrollment day at Schools
2. Day of Quiet Waters
July 4
Mostly celebrated near Lake Aeloria and Lakeshadow.
- No boats launched.
- No fishing permitted.
- Bells rung at dusk.
3. The Emberfast
November 30
A day of restraint.
- No arcane magic cast publicly.
- Temples hold silent prayer.
- Spellcasters fast from casting if able.
Academies strongly encourage participation.
🏙 City-Specific Holidays
Each major city has one defining celebration.
Nyvere — Crown’s Accord
April 20
Celebrates the unity between the Crown and the Hands (city leadership).
- Legal pardons announced.
- Public court sessions held.
- Oaths of office renewed.
- Grand feast in the capital square.
Abyr — Tideforged Day
August 12
Celebrates Abyr’s naval dominance.
- Ship races.
- Harbor fireworks.
- Blessing of the fleet.
- Mock sea battles for spectacle.
Sailors pour a cup of rum into the sea “for those taken.”
Tyr — Ironbound Muster
May 25
Celebrates Tyr’s military strength.
- City-wide weapons inspection.
- Arena trials. (jousting, swords, brawls, etc)
- Public enlistment ceremonies.
Prisoners may earn reduced sentences by competing.
Lakeshadow - Mistfall Remembrance
October 10
- Moment of silence at dawn.
- No swimming.
- Lanterns floated at night.
Officially for drowned sailors.
